The Sun came out after a few wet weeks…. We headed to Darragh Beg … we welcomed two new comers who I think enjoyed there day hiking the hill… Thanks to Veronica our walk leader.

Galtee Mountains
Another Sunday on the Mountains this time we stayed local on the Galtee Mountains… Kings yard to Galtee Mór..
Cailleach Beara Loop
Just across the county bonds….. We had a day out with a great hike on the Cailleach Beara Loop in the Bonane Heritage Park.
It starts on country lanes to paved access roads and then cross country but is way marked and easy to navigate. There are great views to the south of Bantry Bay and north to Kenmare. The trail comes close to the Caha Pass where you can see the arches over the road way. It’s a great 11km Hike with great thanks to Deirdre our Walk leader.

Mount Melleary Abbey Pilgrim Paths…….
Our Sunday Walk/Hike took us to Waterford where we walked the Byrne’s Bridge Loop 13.4kms with a few detours to take in The Cross and The Source….. Fabulous Hike with our walk leader Joan. It’s one to go back to again with great views of the Knokmeldown Mountains and the Blackwater Valley.
The Paps Co.Kerry
Back out in Kerry this week…. We went to The Paps of Anu a pair of breast-shaped mountains near Killarney. The eastern summit, The Paps East, is 694 metres high and the western top, The Paps West is 690 metres high. The mountains are named after Anu, believed to have been an ancient mother goddess. We had a great day out with our Walk leader Timmy, a local man who knows these mountains like the back of his hand. We had a hardy crew of 13 hikers and meet a lot of others on the way. The weather was with us if not a bit windy on the tops. A great hike and you get two mountains in for your credit…..
